nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Music
& Dramatic Arts. LSU is the state’s flagship research university and holds
the Carnegie Foundation’s designation as a
Doctorate-granting

The campus has recently committed to a major capital campaign in keeping with
its growth and future plans.
The College of Music &
Dramatic Arts is comprised of the
School
of
Music
and the
Department of Theatre. Divisions in the
School
of
Music
include: Bands, Composition, Ensembles and Conducting, Instrumental, Keyboard,
Music Education, Theory and Musicology, and Voice/Opera. Areas of study in the
Department of Theatre are: Arts Administration, Dance, Design/Technology,
Literature/History/Theory, and Performance. The Department of Theatre offers
theatrical productions under the joint auspices of LSU Theatre and
Swine
Palace
,
a professional equity theatre company. Both the Department of Theatre and the
School
of
Music
offer comprehensive degree
programs from the baccalaureate through the doctorate.
The College currently serves over
400 undergraduate and 190 graduate students, along with approximately 140
minors. There are over 70 faculty (both full & part-time), along with 15
professional and classified staff members.
The primary goals of the College
are: to offer advanced training in the performing arts to students who are
committed to developing their innate talents; to make the performing arts a
cultural asset for the University and the community at large; to prepare
graduates for leadership roles and careers in the performing arts; to
contribute to the knowledge-base of music and theatre through creative endeavor
and published research.
The
School
of
Music
and the
Department of Theatre at LSU have long been recognized for the quality of their
performance and research programs. Student groups have appeared as invited
feature performers at the
Kennedy
Center
, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Notre Dame
Cathedral (France), Berlin Cathedral (
Germany
),
Shanghai Dramatic Art Centre (
China
),
Beijing Central Academy of Drama (
China
), and at other various
international, national and regional conferences and conventions. Our faculties
have distinguished themselves as specialists in their fields and many currently
lead their respective discipline’s professional associations, as well as
maintaining distinctive performance careers.
In addition, the
School
of
Music
has been identified as one of LSU Foundation of Excellence programs. These
programs were selected because each has sufficient strength to advance to
levels that command national and international attention, heightening LSU's
reputation as a rising public research university. These programs are the foundations of
excellence on which LSU's students, faculty, and staff are building to make the
University a leading center of learning and discovery for the 21st century.
Required Qualifications: Ability
to provide visionary leadership in the performing arts; eligibility for
appointment as Full Professor in music, theatre, or cognate discipline with a
terminal degree in the respective field and a distinguished record of
performance and/or scholarly activities; extensive administrative experience
including responsibility for budgetary and personnel matters and an
understanding of faculty and student development processes; demonstrative
success in fund-raising and development to support the College’s mission and
the LSU Forever Campaign; commitment to the values and disciplines of the
performing arts (including having adequate knowledge of the academic self-study
and accreditation process, knowledge of NASM & NAST standards and related
organizational structures and procedures).
