Letter from the Search Committee Chair
Dear Colleague,
On behalf of the search committee I am pleased to announce that the search for the next Dean of the LSU College of Music and Dramatic Arts has commenced. We begin this search fully aware of its importance to both the College and LSU. There is little doubt that selecting the next Dean to lead the College into the future is one of the most important and exciting opportunities facing the University. It is an honor for me, both as a fellow dean and a colleague, to be entrusted with a leadership role for this task. It is my ongoing pleasure to work with such an outstanding committee of faculty, students, and community partners as we conduct the search for the next six or seven months.
The Louisiana State University College of Music & Dramatic Arts is a national leader in the comprehensive training for professionals in music and theatre. The College, comprised of the LSU School of Music and the LSU Department of Theatre, has over 600 majors, a very prestigious faculty, and offers degrees and curricular concentrations from the baccalaureate through the doctorate. The College has achieved the highest standards of performance, creativity, pedagogy, research and scholarship, and as a consequence it is recognized as one of the areas of excellence on our campus.
The search process began in April when the committee met with Mr. Paul Chou, a representative of the Russell Reynolds Associates search firm. Paul, himself a professional concert violinist and conductor, is well versed in the issues and challenges that impact the leadership of a performing arts operation or institution and particularly well-suited for the task at hand. During his visits to LSU Paul met with various members of the administration, faculty and staff members of the College, and representatives of various community stakeholders. These meetings provided an invaluable framework to identify the attributes, strengths, and skills most desired in the individual who will lead the College of Music and Dramatic Arts. The position description on our website is a direct outgrowth of this initial effort.
